Blue Ballad is a rather simple track to play on. It is in the key of A minor, and supports A minor pentatonic all over the chord progression.
I created this track for my students to start using the right notes on the right chords. Shredding the minor pentatonic is an option of course, but focusing on the important notes of each chord makes it sound better.
So that’s one thing to work on. Next is the use of the sharp 4th of the lydian mode (on the F chord), and substituting the aeolian mode with the dorian mode on a minor 7 chord.
The use of a slow tempo makes it possible to think about all this while playing, and to listen to how each note sounds on each chord.
